Fans defend Kate Middleton after Vogue editor criticizes her jewelry

Fans of the Princess of Wales have come to her defence after her taste in jewellery was criticised by her ex Vogue written by Suzy Menkes.

Menkes described Kate Middleton’s jewelry choices as a “disappointment” during the newest episode of her podcast Creative Conversationswhen he spoke to the British Voguejewelry editor Carolsibroloolton.

“The Princess of Wales is a little disappointed about the jewels,” Menkes said. “She gives the impression that she only puts it on when she absolutely needs it.

“I imagine her looking pretty in one of those dresses behind the scenes and then pulling a face like, ‘Should I wear this? She does not give any feeling to worship jewelry and be content to wear it.”

During the conversation, the former editor then claimed that Kate doesn’t have the same “joy” for wearing jewellery as Queen Camilla.

“[Kate] there doesn’t seem to be Camilla’s joy in wearing jewelry, “she said, before noting that, as Queen, Camilla” apparently has a first opportunity to see [royal family’s] the jewels”.

The comments have sparked criticism on social media, with many defending Kate and her style choices.

“Maybe, just maybe [Kate] she’s more focused on her job than looking like a fashionista. Typical superficial comment from someone who had an unimportant job,” one person wrote on tantanitter in response.

Another said: “The Princess of Wales is as glamorous as they come. She has a very elegant look and always looks good. Al-Bukhari Vogue the editor is wrong.”

“Hmm … it seems to be Katerina is a conservative jewelry wearer. There’s nothing wrong with that,” someone else wrote.

Another person defended Kate’s jewelry choices on the basis that she has “just the right mix of affordable and high-end jewelry”.

“The Princess of Wales has a great eye for accessories, and her collection of earrings is stunning – especially because she often promotes small businesses by wearing their jewellery,” they wrote. “She has just the right mix of affordable and high-end jewelry in her wardrobe.”

Someone else wrote on tantanit: “I have no love for royalty, but Kate is the absolute representation of elegance. If it’s a disappointment then [I don’t know] what’s more waiting.”

Others suggested that the Princess of Wales ‘ accessory choices reflect an awareness of the “current climate,” with one person asking: “I wonder how it would go down if she wore a new designer outfit every day of the week and displayed expensive jewellery – especially in this current climate?”

The royal is known for its blend of high-end and affordable jewelry, with Kate opting for a $75(58flix) pair of pearl earrings from Shyla for one last appearance at zimbimbledon.

However, the Princess of Wales also has a number of prominent jewels in her jewellery collection, including numerous pieces inherited from her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana.

Kate’s South Sea Diamond and pearl earrings are one such item, which the royal has worn on a number of recent occasions, including Royal Ascot 2022, the first state visit of King Charles’s reign and the coronation of the King and Queen in May. For the occasion, Kate also wore a sequin and a floral headpiece with metallic nails by Jess Collett x Alexander McQueen.

In addition to Diana’s earrings, The Princess of Wales also inherited the late royal’s sapphire and diamond engagement ring.

During the podcast conversation, Menkes also addressed some of the controversy surrounding the royal family’s jewellery collection, with the former magazine editor describing some of the pieces as “questionable”.

“It’s one of those weird secrets,” she said. “Not discussed, and I can see why because some of the parts are suspicious. They came from India.

“I’m not going to say it was stolen, but it was probably given and taken by the British royal family. They were not stealing it, but taking a place at the time, and and taking jewelry that they thought was an attractive thing to return to England with them.”
