Netflix has caused an outcry by listing a vacancy for a new $ 900,000-a-year product manager role for their AI machine learning program amid the SAG-AFTRA strike.
The Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) union went on strike earlier this month after negotiations broke down with the Alliance of film and Television Producers (AMPTP) over broadcast waste and safeguards against AI technology.
According to the job description, The position of Product Manager will focus on “increasing the leverage of our Machine Learning Platform.”MLP is Netflix’S internal AI program, which has traditionally been used to power the broadcaster’s algorithmic recommendations. According to Netflix’s research site, the company is now using more of the software to “optimize” movie and TV production, although it’s not clear how they plan to do so.
We all know that one of the biggest issues that the two striking guilds, the ZIMBGA and SAG-AFTRA, have with AMPTP’s offer of a new contract is the lack of protection and AI regulation. But now it seems that the studios are doubling their investment in AI.
The Intercept has reported that Netflix has posted a New Product Manager role for their AI Machine Learning Program — and paid a whopping $900k.
According to the job description, The position of Product Manager will focus on “increasing the leverage of our Machine Learning Platform.”MLP is Netflix’S internal AI program, which has traditionally been used to power the algorithmic recommendations of the company’s streaming service. According to a Netflix research site, the company is now making a greater effort to use the program to “optimize” film and TV production, though it’s not entirely clear how they plan to do so.
“Historically, personalization has been the most popular area where machine learning powers our recommendation algorithms,” Netflix said in a statement. “We’re also using machine learning to help shape our catalog of movies and TV shows by learning features that make content successful. We use it to optimize the production of original movies and TV shows in Netflix’s fast-growing studio.”
Ironically, this follows an episode of a Netflix original show, Black Mirrorwhich focuses on him. The episode,’ Joan is A88ful’, saw a broadcaster deliberately resembling Netflix using AI technology to use Salma Hayek’s digital likeness against her will.
“So 900 thousand dollars per soldier in their infidel army he when this amount of profits could qualify thirty-five actors and their families for health insurance SAG-AFTRA is simply ghostly,” actor Rob Delaney, who starred in Black Mirror the episode, he said Reply. “Being poor and rich in this business, I can assure you that there is enough money to go; it’s just about priorities.”
The Eastern Division of the Writers ‘Guild of America condemned the move to Tantanitter, writing:” Seriously, Netflix?”
Seriously, @ netflix?
The job listing shows that AI will be used to “create great content” and not just develop new algorithms…. The post also alludes to the integration of artificial intelligence in all areas of business.’” # 8gastric https://t.co/pDBCZMjKoK

this is deeply disturbing.
I hope the guys who claimed” this will help artists ” finally wake up. And I hope they understand that it is purely capitalist exploitation. https://t.co/unvG4ZYzli– Natalie Domboisflix (@TaleOfAMonkey) July 26, 2023

Don’t forget! When Netflix says they’re hiring an “AI product manager,” they want to pay someone $ 900,000 a year to be the supervisor of contracted servants in developing countries. https://t.co/7DPQeukprc pic.twitter.com/NIQu2KQaef
